Our Ministries

OHPM provides Direct Ministry to Inmates , Chaplain Support, Chaplain Training, and Deputy Outreach.

Direct Ministry to Inmates

Chaplains and volunteers associated with OHPM regularly provide inmates in Los Angeles county with the following services and opportunities:
Sunday Services: We mobilize teams of chaplains and volunteers to lead worship and preach the Word of God.
Bible Studies: We conduct small group Bible Studies in Spanish and English throughout the week.
Biblical Resources: We provide Bibles, Christian books, topical courses, and other materials. Many of these resources are available in English and Spanish.
Counseling and Death Notifications: We use the Word of God to counsel inmates facing all kinds of trials and temptations. In addition, it is our responsibility to notify inmates when a family member has passed away.
Community Transition: We connect interested inmates with local churches and Faith-based, inpatient rehabilitation programs according to their needs.

Chaplain Support

One of the primary ways that OHPM seeks to accomplish the mission of making the gospel known in the LA county jails is by supporting faithful chaplains.
This is vital, since there are no paid chaplain positions or funds provided by LA county.
OHPM currently supports and equips the senior chaplains overseeing protestant ministry in all 7 jail facilities: Twin Towers, Men’s Central Jail, Century Regional Detention Facility, North County Correctional Facility, North Facility, South Facility, and East Facility.

Chaplain Training

The Only Hope Prison Ministries Training Academy exists to equip men and women for faithful ministry in correctional settings.
The Academy provides intensive, in-person training in a modular format. Participants are provided with a solid biblical framework for ministry and the practical preparation necessary to navigate the unique challenges of ministry behind bars.
Today there are more than 100 graduates ministering across the nation!

Deputy Outreach

While our primary goal is to reach inmates with the gospel, we also actively encourage and support correctional and law-enforcement personnel. We often have opportunity to speak words of encouragement and regularly pray for their safety.
Recently, with the help of local churches and businesses, we have been able to show our support in a tangible way. In the last 3 years we have been able to provide over 7,000 Double-Double meals from In-N-Out and over 1,800 books and Study Bibles from Grace to You.
